George Frideric Handel was born on February 24, 1685, the Baroque period. His birthplace is Halle, Germany. He began to notice his musical talent before his tenth birthday. In the 1700s, he moved to Italy. One of the cities he went to was Naples. There he composed operas, oratorios, and many small secular cantatas. An oratorio is an extended musical composition with a text more or less dramatic in character and usually based upon a religious theme, for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra, and performed without action, costume, or scenery. The last musical performance he heard was his own piece, "The Messiah". He got his first job as a church organist, just after his 17th birthday.George Frideric Handel died by stroke in London on April 14, 1759. Handel's father died in 1697.
